…it’s about removing the things that distract you from what you love…
Decluttering for inner peace: In a world that is screaming for more, more, more… it seems so counter intuitive to encourage that we go smaller and quieter with our home decor. Covid has dropped us onto our cluttered couches and invited us to take a good look around and reassess our stuff. The result has been a strong desire for lots of us to edit and simplify wherever we can so we can create comforting spaces that encourage us to slow down, simplify, and enjoy our homes.
The question of what you want to own is actually the question of how you want to live your life”
- Marie Kondo
The secret to a well-designed home is in each thoughtful detail and these details have a direct effect on our emotional wellbeing. So how do we create a home that nourishes, ignites and supports our lifestyle with less clutter, less distraction and more of what we love? Here are a few suggestions on how to get started.
Focus on how each room is actually used.
Start small and edit …one drawer, one closet, one room at a time.
Focus on reducing clutter first and organizing later.
Create categories and group the items.
Remove duplicate, broken and unused items
Donate.
Streamline and take inventory: kitchen, closets, drawers, bathroom, garage/shed. Categorize items and label bins, boxes and storage containers. (Hint: matching containers look prettier!)
Maintenance is everything. Make it a habit. Take a few minutes out of your day to tidy up and keep new systems organized and effective.
Resist impulse shopping just to fill up empty spaces.
soon you will find yourself with an open, organized space filled with the things you use and love the most!
